Greater Anglia EMU Variety Coming to an End?

Greater Anglia EMU Variety Coming to an End? The end of the Class 90 hauled passenger services on Greater Anglia is something that has been widely known and much discussed. Perhaps less well known is that a number of electric multiple unit classes are also due to end their days in passenger service on Greater Anglia service. This is due to the imminent introduction of the new Class 720 electric multiple units which currently under construction by Bombardier. These new units will replace the Class 317, 321 and 360 Desiros that currently operate suburban services on Greater Anglia. In addition the Class 745/1s Stadler FLIRTs are due to replace the Class 379s on Stansted Express services between London Liverpool Street and Stansted Airport. The future of theses displaced units is uncertain. The older types such as the 317s will probably be scrapped while the others may well be stored in the hope of being taken up by another TOC.

The following is a compilation video featuring the Class 317s, Class 321s “dusty bins”, Class 360s Desiros and Class 379s in action on the Great Eastern and West Anglia lines.

The clips were filmed at a variety of locations including Marks they, Rivenhall End, Wivenhoe and Mountnessing.
