Geographic Regions

Geographic Regions ****Based on 2008 SOL Standards****
Video displaying images of the eight geographic regions of North America, a Virginia Standard of Learning (SOL). The song is written by B. Hill and performed by L. Sconiers.

The lyrics:

(VA SOL USI.2b) GEOGRAPHIC REGIONS
Sing to the tune of The Macarena. Add hand movements!
Submitted by B. Hill
Arranged by L. R. Sconiers

Along the Atlantic and the Gulf of Mexico
Excellent harbors, broad land so low
The Coastal Plain sounds really neat
GEOGRAPHIC REGIONS!

Appalachian Mountains to the west of Coastal Plain
From Canada to Alabama – back again
North America’s oldest mountain range
GEOGRAPHIC REGIONS!

The Canadian Shield wraps ‘round the Hudson Bay
Reminds me of a horseshoe some might say
Worn by erosion and hundreds of lakes
GEOGRAPHIC REGIONS!

West of the Appalachians, east of the Great Plains
Interior Lowlands stake their claim
Flatlands, rivers, valleys, and hills
GEOGRAPHIC REGIONS!

In between the lowlands and the Rocky Mountain Range
Sits flat land we call the Great Plains
Moving higher to the west these grasslands grow
GEOGRAPHIC REGIONS!

Rocky Mountains to the west of the Great Plains
From Alaska to Mexico east of Basin Range
Where the Con-ti-nen-tal Divide make the rivers flow
GEOGRAPHIC REGIONS!

West of the Rockies is the Basin and Range
Like a roller coaster it feels so strange
Death Valley’s there and its looking mighty low
GEOGRAPHIC REGIONS!

The Mountains along the Coastal Range could boast
California to Canada we stretch the coast
Containing fertile valleys we love the most
GEOGRAPHIC REGIONS!
