Depression in Children & Teens

Depression in Children & Teens What does depression "look like" in children and adolescents--and what can you do to help your child? We asked pediatric psychologist Dr. Sean Akers with Children's Behavioral Health.

The most important first step when you are struggling with your emotions is to reach out for help from the appropriate resources. We encourage you to reach out to one of the following resources: a school psychologist or counselor, medical doctor, mental health professional (psychologist or therapist) or spiritual leader. If you feel comfortable discussing your feelings with your parents, ask them to help you get in touch with someone who can help. Please don’t try to manage these feelings on your own or through a friend – ask a trusted adult for help.
