GAS Student Meet-Up: November 2020

GAS Student Meet-Up: November 2020 This month's GAS Student Meet-Up presents our first artist demo by guest Madeline Rile Smith. Watch Madeline demonstrate how to make a glass flute on the torch while she discusses sound, performance, and the varying ways she uses glass in the creation of her musical instruments.

Madeline is an American artist working in glass. She earned an MFA in glass at Rochester Institute of Technology, and a BFA in glass from Tyler School of Art. Madeline draws upon her musical background to create glass musical instruments which explore physical connection between players. She utilizes hot glass as a performative medium to consider notions of intimacy and compromise. Madeline's sculptural glass work has been exhibited in venues throughout the US and featured in New Glass Review 35 + 41. She has instructed glassworking in schools and institutions throughout the east coast, including UrbanGlass in Brooklyn, Salem Community College, and Rochester Institute of Technology.

This meeting will be moderated by:
