The Algebraic Calculus One course is purely online at Open Learning, and gives a novel and careful approach to the classical subject of Calculus, but without infinite processes or real numbers. In this video we have a look at the course, in particular the Chapter on Signed Areas, which gives a historical introduction to classical areas, introduces a linear algebraic definition of signed areas first for triangles and then quadrilaterals, discusses the cross product of planar vectors, and treats formulas of Meister and Crelle.
