Nikolas Gvosdev: Fractured Globalization & Dissolving Ethics

If global interconnections begin to fray in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, what happens to the ethical underpinnings of international relations? Alliances, unions, and commonwealths assume a level of solidarity among their members where burdens and risks are shared. The current health crisis, however, has seen partners reimpose borders and export controls that are justified on the basis of defending sovereignty--and where the aspirational ethics of solidarity are jettisoned for a "country first" approach.
