Prime Minister Scott Morrison says the nation must "keep ahead" of the deadly coronavirus pandemic and has called for public patience even though the issue has proven to be a "very anxious thing" for many Australians. It comes as Mr Morrison said there are “no plans” to change the current lockdown measures for at least another four weeks.
Delivering an update in Canberra on Thursday, Mr Morrison said restrictions would only be eased if Australia met three key conditions: increased testing, better contact tracing, and the ability to lock down localised areas in cases of outbreaks.
"We still have a difficult road ahead of us at this point despite the successes that Australians have achieved in the weeks that we have just gone through," Mr Morrison said.
He warned against the early easing of government imposed restrictions, saying you only have to "look at the experience of what happened overseas".
"If you ease off too quickly too early, then you end up making the situation even worse, and I don't just mean in the health terms".
