0002 - Cultured Mind 0002 – Cultured mind
Just now, electricity is not there; hence no light. Visibility is poor but it is workable. Swamiji is saying–
An inert, a gross mind loves bright light. He keeps big bulbs giving exceptionally bright light. But, one whose taste has been refined keeps soft and tender light.
Subtle mind has a different kind of taste. What are the characteristics of a subtle mind, a cultured mind? Listen to it – Of course, I am not talking in the sense of education and worldly etiquettes and manners. When I say ‘culture’, I mean cultivation of soul, a cultured soul.
He is soft and tender like green grass. He is kind and sympathetic. He always understands. He gives a better touch to everything. Anything you give him, and he will make it better. He makes any subject matter presented to him more agreeable and more meaningful.
See! how Socrates used to convert even an ordinary piece of conversation into a golden piece of wisdom! How he would throw all the light on the subject matter presented to him! He used to pick up left out apples and vegetables from the market place; and, by the magic touch of truth, convert them into golden apples and golden vegetables.
Along with such kind of refined culture, if one has divinity added to it, it is really excellent.
Culture is aristocracy and richness of human soul.”
